Abstract

The city is established as a project of a society which must meet the social and economic needs of the population, the availability and generation of a set of satisfactions which guarantee an acceptable living standard. In this context, the term habitat is associated with the physical and biological environment in which life is developed. The site and housing are among its components (ONU, 1996), the living standards of the population depend on the conditions of site and housing. Considering the premises mentioned, this study has the objective of analyzing the habitat and the living conditions of the population of Gran Resistencia (GR) considering both the physical and constructed means. In the spatial analysis, it was able for us to establish the existence of degraded human habitat in the north as well as in the south areas; these were studied through a mixed epistemological approach. The results were achieved through methodological tools combined in the geographical synthesis using a technique of cartographic overlaying, which relates social housing indicators obtained through qualitative treatment to the waterlogging and flooding areas, typical of the topographic conditions of the land. These areas were identified with the help of the tools provided by the Geographic Information System (GIS).
