Abstract

Currently, the population with fewer economic resources tend to settle in areas with flood risk. This research addresses the perception of flood risk among the population living in the western sector of El Palomar neighborhood. The objective is to analyze the perception of flood risk in relation to the age and level of education attained by the neighborhood's inhabitants, as well as to understand the strategies implemented by the population in response to this phenomenon. To achieve this, a compilation of literature, interviews, and surveys to residents in the western sector of the neighborhood were carried out. It is hypothesized that the inhabitants of the western sector of El Palomar neighborhood in 2022 were aware of the high risk of flooding as they live near the banks of the Formosa creek.

This area was selected for this study due to its location on the west zone, nearby the Formosa creek, and to the persistence of residents living there in spite of neighborhood having experienced flooding in the past.
