Colonization in Formosa in the late 1960s: The case de “El Porteñito”
Main Article Content
Abstract
This paper analyzes a colonization plan projected for the town of Villa General Güemes, Formosa Province, between 1965 and 1972. It gained traction during the de facto provincial government of General Augusto Sosa Laprida. Among other goals, the plan included complex agroecological studies in the area, as well as agricultural-livestock exploitation and urban planning analyses. The plan was spearheaded by the Argentine Agrarian Federation, the Federal Investment Council, and both national and provincial governments. Although the plan was not fully executed as initially intended, it had consequences: public institutions like the Development Commission were inaugurated, main avenues were laid out, and there was social unrest among local residents affected by rural land subdivision. Properties they lived on were sold, creating conflicts between new owners and long-time occupants.
