The social stratification of the agricultural producers of the department of Pilcomayo, the case of the Recodo and Loma Hermosa Colony. An analytical perspective from the rural Geography

Abstract

The rural geography studies the characteristics and issues of different national and international rural geographical spaces. In this case the rural geography provides a social-geographical analysis of the rural spaces of the province of Formosa, analysing the main economic activities carried out in the Recodo and Loma Hermosa colonies, which involve farming and breeding, differentiated according to a series of internal and external factors. The classification of the agricultural producers based on the access to the means of production and the main social characteristics, which are elements to be analyzed from the rural geography perspective. These colonies gather a significant number of familiar producers with different characteristics of stratification whose origin can be traced back to the historical conformation of the province. In the present research, surveys and interviews has been applied to the agricultural producers with a view to creating a social typology and stratification, based on the corresponding theoretical framework. The definition of the typology of agricultural producers is aimed at contributing to the characterization of the diversity of situations which takes place in the Formosan agriculture.
