The Citizen’s Perception of the Climate Change

Abstract

Studying the public perception of the climate change in Formosa is necessary to measure the society’s interest or apathy towards this climatic phenomenon. Through the Programme of Communication of the Climate Change of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Formosa, it was able to create an ambitious research area about a topic that is not properly known by a large percentage of the population in Formosa, in the city as well as in the rural areas of the province. The climate change is the result of the gradual global warming and the increase of greenhouse gasses (known in Spanish as GEI), which represent a constant concern for the world research community. Different forms of communication were scheduled to spread the information, for example courses, media programmes, interviews and surveys targeted at specific sectors, which were partially performed up to date. Surveys were used to find the level of population knowledge about the phenomenon caused by the Global Warming. The survey respondents were asked about whether they believed in the Climate Change, which news sources they used, which degree of concern the population had about the acceleration of the mutation of time and weather, etc. The Climate Change (CC) is currently a relevant topic, both in the political agenda and the public opinion. It has been named as the 21st century issue by many authors.
