The Intercontinental Migrations in Argentina. The case of Senegalese and Asian Immigrants in Formosa

Abstract

This research raises the issue of new migration flows from Asia and Africa as a case study. The investigation is about the migrations from Senegal in Africa and China in Asia. This article shows some data and reflections to explain and understand the practices and processes of communication, insertion, organization carried out by African and Asian immigrants in Argentina. The objectives are identifying the main causes of African and Asian immigration as well as recognizing the predominant and concentration areas of African and Asian immigrants in Argentina. The methodology of this research was searching, selection and analyses of books, research magazines, consultation of government agencies webpages, national censuses, and research articles referring to the topic. In addition, interviews to Senegalese immigrants living in Formosa were carried out, pointing out significant aspects such as the residence, the economic activity, the concentration area as well as the route to their current place of residence. They explain how they feel in the Argentinian territory, how they adapt, their relationship with the community they are living in and the reasons to choose Argentina.
