The map of the city of Formosa towards the year 1937

Abstract

The city of Formosa, founded in 8th April 1979, is the result of the definite establishment of the borders of the Paraguay Republic. Formosa is located on the right side of the Paraguay River, it has been characterized by its relationship with this river through

the dock and, later on, the harbour, and by its administrative function for the large National Territory of Formosa. These aspects are represented in the map of 1937 through the public buildings shown. The location of the ancient Formosa Colony was not random but it was a decision of locating it in the highlands of the Paraguay river, the election of this sight left the footprints in the construction of the city. Additionally, the study of this map allows us to determine other characteristics linked to the form, and the buildings, which somewhat forecast the function of a city. Regarding the morphology, the map is a damero one, where the distribution of streets, green spaces (although these has changed) can be seen.
