The Formosan agricultural sector: a census approach (2001-2010)

Abstract

The present text is aimed at approaching the issue of the economic activity of the
Formosan agricultural sector through the National Census of Population, Homes and
Housing 2001 and its equivalent of the year 2010. Regarding it, the variables presented in
the occupational categories are analysed.
An increase in the employed population has been observed, which is also evident at
analysing the agricultural sector. However, we find a relative decay in other sector’s
activity, as evidence of a provincial process of de-agriculturalization. Similarly, a
simultaneous process of proletarianization and depeasantization was observed through the
approach to the occupational categories.
