Immigrants from Paraguay in the province of Chaco (2010): spatial distribution and labour characterization

Abstract

This study describes the introduction of the immigrants from Paraguay to the labour market in the Province of Chaco (Argentina). The migrations, particularly the ones originated by women, currently raise interest in the field of migration and gender studies. Lately, there is a greater social and political “visibility” and a relevant increase on the number of women in the migration processes. The main aim of this exploratory project is to evaluate the labour situation of the immigrants from Paraguay in the Province of Chaco, identifying the characteristics of the population with more labour opportunities, their spatial distribution and aspects and factors which influenced those features. The gender is considered an influencing factor on the access and the labour conditions of the immigrants from Paraguay in the province of Chaco.
